As The Woman In Black starring Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe is set to take the world by storm and have audiences leaping out of their seats with fright, Premiere Scene's Claire Bueno snatched an opportunity to speak to Hammer CEO Simon Oakes about the much loved brand and how it's been lovingly brought back to life!

CB: You've used some big names like Hilary Swank, Christopher Lee obviously and now Daniel Radcliffe; was that a conscious decision that as a brand you mean business?

SO: Well yes and no. As you know Let Me In with Chloe (Grace Moretz) who is beginning to become a huge star but she really wasn't really known then. Matthew Vaughan very kindly let me look at an assembly of kick Ass. That's when I saw Chloe and thought she'd be amazing to be our young vampire in Let Me In and so the answer is where ever the material fits the bill; you know you'd be crazy not to cast a marquee name in it. But for example we're announcing a project tonight (The Quiet Ones) which is a poltergeist movie based on a true story about a group of scientists who are basically taken off campus by a maverick professor and they create a poltergeist, create an ectoplasm poltergeist and it's an ensemble piece so it won't be star driven, because in a sense the star of the movie is the movie itself in that situation. The thing about The Woman In Black is that Arthur Kipps is pretty much on screen pretty much all the time and therefore you're going to need to have some one who can grab people’s imagination and attention which I think Daniel does very well.

CB: And be able to carry it as well?

SO: Yeah, Yeah of course

CB: Would you like to encourage new comer actors and try to help launch new names?

SO: Sure, I think there are so many new young actors and actresses around and I wish that we did live in a world where you had a repertory group like Hammer used to have in the '50's '60's and '70's where you saw the same actors reprising roles like Cushing (Peter) and Lee (Christopher) and all these people. It's very difficult to do that now, it was great to have Christopher come in and do one of our first Hammer films (The Resident) and yes we'd like to think that actors that we work with come back and do stuff with us again. I don't think any of the British young actors in America or England need encouragement; I think if you find the right material then you know we'll cast them. There's some amazing talent coming through, Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne, the young boy who was in Great Expectations; all these young women, phenomenal actress; yes, absolutely.

CB: What creative input do you have? Or do you want to have in the films that you are making?

SO: A lot, as much as possible and as much as I’m allowed. There's a great team we have who often don’t get mentioned. My colleague Tobin Armbrust whose the Head of production, very involved, very cinema literate, very savvy; Ben Holden, Development, Shira Rockowitz these are all names I would love you to mention everyone is really involved they give copious script notes, we get involved with all aspects of casting, we really are involved; absolutely. So then if things work you take the benefit and if they don't you take the downside, but you can't be involved in this business and say here's a cheque go off and make your movie, otherwise it's a disaster.

CB: One of the failings sadly of Hammer in the beginning was that it didn't embrace the future, what are you doing to future proof the brand of Hammer?

SO: Such a tough question, I don't think you can future proof anything, I think what you have to do is to keep on, stick to your guns, stick to your philosophy. You know the world has changed in terms of the amount of space there is for content you have to think very laterally. The thing about Hammer is that there is no question that they simply didn't see what was coming and remember it was basically a congregation of American movies, movies coming from different parts of the world and they were sort of in this little time warp, I think the fact is since we started we've made two movies in the US, we made a movie in Ireland and the UK, we're doing another picture soon possibly in South Africa that you know it's a global industry now. I think Hammer was very much the plucky Brit in the mid '70's and it wasn't seeing what was coming. So I don't know, we've just got to work hard and make successful movies I guess.

Miss Piggy, in a UK first, took to the red carpet to interview some of the film world’s biggest names in her own inimitable style including Gary Oldman, Michael Fassbender and Daniel Radcliffe. The glittering awards ceremony took place last night at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, just days after ‘The Muppets’ went on general release across the UK.

Miss Piggy needs no introduction; star of film, TV and the Disney movie ‘The Muppets’ which is now in cinemas across the country, she has been a pop culture icon known for her wit, charm and for having a certain frog on her arm.

Joining Miss Piggy in the new movie is Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, who discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theatre and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theatre, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. The Artist was named Best Film at tonight’s Orange British Academy Film Awards hosted by Stephen Fry, held at London’s Royal Opera House. The film also won six other awards: Director, Original Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Costume Design as well as a performance award for Jean Dujardin who won the Leading Actor BAFTA.

Meryl Streep was awarded the BAFTA for Leading Actress for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady; the film was also honoured in the Make-Up & Hair category.

The Help’s Octavia Spencer won the Supporting Actress category and Christopher Plummer won Supporting Actor for his performance in Beginners.

Outstanding British Film and Adapted Screenplay were awarded to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Senna won the Documentary and Editing BAFTAs. Hugo won two BAFTAs in Production Design and Sound. Pedro Almoldovar’s The Skin I Live in won the Film Not in the English Language category and Rango won the BAFTA for Animated Film. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was awarded the BAFTA for Special Visual Effects.

Director Paddy Considine and Producer Diarmid Scrimshaw received the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for their first feature film Tyrannosaur, based upon the short film Dog Altogether that won them the Short Film BAFTA in 2008.

The Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award was presented to Adam Deacon, recently seen in Anuvahood and Kidulthood. This award, the only one voted for by the public, recognises an international actor or actress who has demonstrated exceptional talent and has begun to be recognised as a film star in the making. The award is now in its seventh year and was created in honour of Mary Selway, the highly respected casting director who passed away in 2004.

A Morning Stroll won the Short Animation award and the Short Film award was presented to Pitch Black Heist.

The award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema was received by John Hurt. The Fellowship, the highest accolade which the Academy can bestow, was presented to Martin Scorsese.

Nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were announced today (Tuesday, January 24) by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and 2010 Oscar® nominee Jennifer Lawrence.

Sherak and Lawrence, who was nominated for an Academy Award® for her lead performance in “Winter’s Bone,” announced the nominees in 10 of the 24 Award categories at a 5:38 a.m. PT live news conference attended by more than 400 international media representatives. Lists of nominations in all categories were then distributed to the media in attendance and online via the official Academy Awards website, www.oscar.com.

Academy members from each of the branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the Animated Feature Film and Foreign Language Film categories, nominations are selected by vote of multi-branch screening committees. All voting members are eligible to select the Best Picture nominees.

Nominations ballots were mailed to the 5,783 voting members in late December and were returned directly to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the international accounting firm, for tabulation.

Official screenings of all motion pictures with one or more nominations will begin for members this weekend at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Screenings also will be held at the Academy's Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood and in London, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 will be presented on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® , and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

There was a spectacular turn out this evening from the very best in British talent for the 14th Moët British Independent Film Awards. The winners were announced at the star-studded ceremony, held at Old Billingsgate which was hosted by actor and comedian Chris O’Dowd and streamed live for the first time ever on LOVEFiLM.

Best British Independent Film was won by Tyrannosaur with Lynne Ramsay picking up Best Director for We Need to Talk About Kevin, Olivia Colman Best Actress for Tyrannosaur and Michael Fassbender Best Actor for Shame. Vanessa Redgrave won Best Supporting Actress for Coriolanus and Michael Smiley Best Supporting Actor for Kill List.

Tyrannosaur won the most awards on the night, picking up three trophies for Best British Independent Film, Best Actress and Paddy Considine was awarded The Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director. Weekend won two awards for Best Achievement in Production and Most Promising Newcomer for Tom Cullen.

Joint Directors, The Moët British Independent Film Awards Johanna von Fischer & Tessa Collinson said: “What a fantastic year for British film! This year’s nominees embodied a diverse range of genres and those walking away with awards tonight are representative of the high quality of outstanding talent we have in this country. Congratulations to them all."

As previously announced, Ralph Fiennes was awarded the coveted Richard Harris Award for outstanding contribution by an actor to British film, and Kenneth Branagh the Variety Award. The Special Jury Prize went to Graham Easton.

Ice Age: Continental Drift, also known as Ice Age 4, is an upcoming American 3-D computer-animated film directed by Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier, starring the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, with Chris Wedge and Jeremy Renner.

It is the fourth installment of the Ice Age series, being produced by Blue Sky Studios and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It will be the second Ice Age installment that will utilize Digital 3D and the first entry in the Ice Age series to be released in IMAX 3D. It's scheduled for a worldwide release in theaters on July 6, 2012. Where do you live?
The North Pole.

What’s your connection to Santa?
I’m his son, Which makes SANTA MY DAD!!!!

You seem very excited about this. Did you just find out?
No. I’ve always known. (That SANTA’S MY DAD!!!!)

You don’t have a big white beard like your father.
I tried to grow one a few years ago. Five months later I had one very long thin white hair
sticking out of my chin. It made my head look like a balloon on a string. I tripped over it
in an ice corridor and it tore out. Ouch. Never again!

Any other ways in which you differ from your father?
Um, I have a phobia of heights, reindeer and travelling at high speed. I have no sense of
direction. And I’m allergic to snow. And I’m skinny. And my laugh’s quite different to
dad’s. Listen. (laughs) See what I mean?

You sound more like a baby seal than Santa.

What’s your favourite time of year?
Christmas.

Least favourite time of year?
The day after Christmas.

Why?
Because I’ll have to wait a whole year until Christmas.

What’s ‘Christmassing’?
The act of liking Christmas. All the time. And having Christmas fun. And doing
Christmassy things. And filling every bit of space in the whole world with tinsel and
paper chains.

Favourite colour?
Green and red, preferably combined in a Christmas-centric design.

Favourite possession?
My fluffy light-up reindeer slippers. They play up to two carols and are made in China (I
guess the Chinese love Christmas too!).

Favourite song?
‘The 365 Days of Christmas’.

Don’t you mean ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’?
No. I love that song, but I don’t understand why you’d stop after only 12 verses. So I
added another 353. Shall I sing it?

Umm…
I won’t sing the whole song, That takes 22 hours and 13 minutes. I’ll just sing the last
verse - only 12 minutes. (Sings:) On the 365th day of Christmas, My True Love gave to
me, 365 wolves a-howling, 364 frogs a-ribbiting, 363 chimps a-whooping, 362 Yelloweared
cockatoos a-squawking, 210 black widow spiders a-scurrying, 209 slugs a
nothinging...I could go on…

Favourite movie?
That’s a tie between ‘Independence Sleigh’ and ‘Raiders of the Lost Arctic’.

You’d think that living at the North Pole, having to plan Christmas all year round, you might get a bit bored with It all, no?
Not me! I have a 365 Day Advent Calendar and a different Christmas sweater for every
day of the year.

Tell us about your family.
Well, first there’s my dad (SANTA!). He’s been in his job for 70 years, which means he’s
due to retire this year and hand over to my brother Steve. He’s amazing (He’s Santa –
how could he not be?), though I think he finds all the technology a bit bewildering (as do
I!). He sometimes forgets the PIN number for getting round the pole (as do I) and a few
weeks back he last the keys to the S-1 (His mile wide sleighship). Turned out I’d picked
them up by accident. But even though it’s a demanding job, dad LOVES being Santa.
I’m not sure he’s that excited about retiring. Whenever anyone asks him what he has
planned, he says ‘Chilly out, today’ or ‘That’s a nice Christmas sweater, Arthur. Is it
new?’ (To which I say ‘No, dad. I wore it on April 9 last year as well’).

Mum’s great. She’s incredibly bright. Sometimes Grandsanta embarrasses everyone at
dinner by saying she’s cleverer than dad (which he thinks is miraculous for a woman). I
think she finds it a little frustrating at times having to exist in dad’s shadow, so she keeps
herself busy by taking online degrees, studying flight manuals for space shuttles and
drawing up treaties with Greenland. I think she’s looking forward to dad retiring.

Then there’s my granddad, Grandsanta, (the Santa before dad). He’s 136, has loads of
brilliant old words like ‘Chimbley’, ‘Kadoodle’ and ‘Mesopotania’ and is full of
amazing stories about how things were better in his day, when he used to go out in the
old sleigh. Grandsanta argues a lot with my brother Steve, who says things are harder
these days, because there are a billion more children and ‘We can’t just fly around
throwing lead-painted toys down chimneys any more’. Like other really old people,
Grandsanta can be a bit un-pc sometimes, especially about women and elves.) I don’t
think he’s ever quite got used to not being Santa. There’s a story the elves tell (which
nobody in the family will discuss) that Grandsanta snuck back out a couple of decades
ago in his old sleigh and nearly caused an international incident. But elves do sometimes
exaggerate.

Steve’s AMAZING. (My whole family are amazing, really). He’s incredibly smart – he
designed the S-1 and came up with its self-projecting invisibility ‘video skin’ and its
propulsion system powered by Mistletane, a biofuel made from all the milk, cookies and
carrots kids leave out for Santa and the reindeer. Steve sometimes uses strange words like ‘Festivize’, and ‘Maximize market share of cheer-based deliverables year on year’. Then again, he sometimes looks confused if I say ‘Isn’t it great that we can bring so much
happiness to so many kids?’. Then he goes back to talking about the ‘Quantitative
performance of our Yule-based infrastructure.’ But I’m sure he’s going to be a fantastic
Santa!

What do you like best about Christmas?
It’s Christmas! It’s that magical time when Santa’s here, and everyone’s talking about
presents and reindeer and elves. And it’s snowy!

Isn’t it like that every day at the North Pole?
Yes! Isn’t it great?

What do you like least about Christmas?
Sorry, I don’t understand the question.

What about Christmas don’t you like?
Are you suggesting there’s something wrong with Christmas?

No. Just wondering if there’s anything, even tiny, that you don’t like about it.
Um, it makes everything else boring in comparison? What those other things might be I
don’t know. Can we talk about Christmas?

What’s it like being Santa’s son?
Fantastic. You get to see all the amazing preparations:
• The elves in different training manoeuvres everyday
• Practicing gift drops and making test flights in the S-1 (dad’s mile wide sleighship. I’ve only ever been on it once, when I was seven. I was sick all over a helmsman elf. Never again!)

As Santa’s son, did you and your brother get more presents than other kids?
Actually, dad works so hard, especially on Christmas Eve, that by the time he gets back, he’s usually a bit exhausted. A couple of times, he’s just flopped into bed and fallen asleep and I’d get my present when he woke up on Dec 26th. But I don’t mind. Because my dad is SANTA.

How many Santas have there been?
20. Each Santa hands the reins down to his son. Dad is the 20th. Steve will be Santa
Claus XXI.

I imagine as you’re at the North Pole all the time, you didn’t have many friends besides your brother and the elves?
You’re right. I created some imaginary friends when I was little. But even they thought
my interest in Christmas was a bit excessive and tended to play with each other rather
than me.

I believe your father struggled for a while to find you a job you were suited to.
I’ve had a few careers, yes. I helped out in Maintenance for a while. That didn’t go so
well. Hit the wrong switch, melted the elf barracks. I think dad was a bit irritated,
especially because, being the head of a highly secret polar operation, he can’t get home or
business insurance. (Can’t give an address for the property). Then, while working with
the S-1’s Camouflage Unit, I accidentally pressed the wrong button in the middle of a
practice operation. I’m not meant to discuss mission details, but let’s just say the night
sky over Detroit last March was bright blue with and filled with birds of paradise for 3.22
seconds. Don’t know how we got away with that one. Oops!

But now you have a post you’re happy in?
Yes - the Mail Department! I love it. It brings me directly into contact with the kids, and
even though Steve might disagree, I think Christmas is for them. The moment I open a
letter from a child, I get lost in it. I sometimes write twenty or thirty page replies! The
only problem is I average two kids a day, which isn’t very efficient.

So how do all the letters get answered?
I’m only one of 15,000 Mail Agents. I’m Mail Agent 4776.

Final question. Why do you think you love Christmas so much?
Don’t know. Maybe it gives me a connection to my dad. He loves me, I’m sure, but we don’t always have a lot to talk about. Christmas is an interest we can both share!

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Autumn 1944. D-Day has failed. Britain has been invaded.

After the fall of Russia and the failure of the D-day landings, a German counter-attack lands on British soil. Within a month, half of Britain is occupied.

As the country is gradually overrun by German forces, Sarah Lewis (Andrea Riseborough), a 26-year-old farmer’s wife, wakes up in her home in an isolated Welsh valley to find her husband Tom has disappeared. On the same morning the other women of the valley also discover their husbands have gone. Assuming that their men have joined the Resistance, the women of this tiny community pull together, taking on the running of the farms, and wait, desperate for news.

When a German patrol arrives in the valley, the purpose of its mission a mystery, the women are frightened but remain resilient, keeping the men at arm’s length. But when a harsh snowstorm heralds the sudden onset of winter the two groups are forced into co-operation. As a fragile mutual dependency develops, Sarah begins an acquaintance with the patrol’s commanding officer, Albrecht (Tom Wlaschiha) and, cut off from the surrounding war, the lines between collaboration, duty, occupation and survival become blurred.

As Albrecht's feelings for Sarah deepen, he confesses to her the secret of his mission. But with the chaos of the war pressing ever more closely in on them, the delicate harmony in the valley begins to falter, forcing the women and the soldiers to make decisions that will change their lives forever.

As the long winter draws to its end and the thaw sets in, the valley is once again open to the outside world. With resources running low, one of the the women, Maggie (Sharon Morgan), takes her husband’s yearling colt to the local agricultural show. Amit Gupta makes his directorial feature debut with RESISTANCE, based on Owen Sheers’ acclaimed novel and adapted for the screen by Gupta and Sheers. Filmed on location in Tel Aviv, the U.K., and Budapest, the espionage thriller The Debt is directed by Academy Award nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love). The screenplay, by Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan, is adapted from the 2007 Israeli film Ha-Hov [The Debt]. The story begins in 1997, as shocking news reaches retired Mossad secret agents Rachel (played by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren) and Stephan (two-time Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson) about their former colleague David (Ciarán Hinds of the upcoming Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy).
